“As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.”
Ecclesiastes 5:15– 1769 Oxford King James Bible “Authorized Version”
I remember an associate of mine used to hinge his every action on a battlefield philosophy. “Do or Die” he’d exclaim concerning things he was passionate about completing…allll the
damn time. I respected his passion and believed his heart was in the right place ;my life experience, however ,strongly suggests that Do is driven by will and Die..inevitibility. With the understanding of transition as the inevitible our actions and influences are all that we leave behind. In our physical absence our actions become the body of work that define our holistic existence.
How many actions or discussions can you think of that resonate within you from those who have moved on? Those who have taught us life lessons and left us with priceless jewels of information. Those who encouraged and enhanced our standards and expectations for ourselves. Those who went out of their way to make sure you knew how important you are..How special you are..how beautiful you are. I’m kind of dancing around here, but I want to drive a point home. People remember how you’ve made them feel long after you’re gone. In a conversation with a co-worker he imparted this jewel ” In the end..the most important thing is the dash between the dates on your tombstone.” More specifically, what you did between them.
What will your legacy be?
This is dedicated to my loving uncle Harry Moffett..who we lost to cancer Sunday July 1st. I’d like to dedicate it as well to all of my loved ones who have passed on. Without them I wouldn’t be remotely close to the person I am today. Thank you for encouraging me..to live, learn, grow, and venture out but always leaving a light on for me to find my way back. I love and miss you all!
